About us

Our company was established to develop and test rock solid operator solution for LPWAN. At that time, the local market did not offer any base station suitable for LoRaWAN which should meet our main requirements. We were looking for a high quality outdoor solution with support for access/backhaul networking and provisioning with no sensitivity to vendor-locking. Company came out with the first version of base station LR1, later on improved version LR2 which we currently offer. All our products are released as an open source as well as software and hardware (https://github.com/lorriercom). We believe this opens the future and gives the opportunity for a dynamic development, independent updates and transparent control.

Introducing LR2

Lorrier LR2 is an improved carrier grade gateway for building professional IoT network based on LoRaWAN™ protocol. This is a fully outdoor device intended to establish a wide coverage network by telecommunications operators and local network by individuals or IoT connectivity service providers. Its durable metal case is resistant to severe weather due to IP66 protection. It consists of the hi-end modern technology to ensure the solid industrial solution. The gateway is based on iC880a LoRaWAN™ concentrator by IMST which uses Semtech SX1301 base band processor designed for use with LoRa® networks. BeagleBone Green with 1GHz (2000 MIPS) processor and fully operational on fast SPI bus was chosen as a powerful control unit. Mikrotik Routerboard providing the advanced settings of the communication functions on Ethernet serves as a communication gate with the Internet on TCP/IP. The installation in tandem with the suitable antenna on the appropriate Point of Presence (like telecommunications pylons, roofs of the buildings etc.) can establish bidirectional communication network which allows handling with thousands nodes up to several dozen kilometers.

Why Mikrotik RouterOS/RouterBoard?

LR2 base station could be installed in any part of network. The protocols IPsec, PPPoE, PPPTP are easily suitable for access area and protocols MPLS, OSPF, BGP for backhaul area. RouterOS allows covering a complete networking stack as well as firewall and src/dst NAT and much more.

Why to use SPI, rather then USB?

Semtech removed USB support from official Driver/HAL since version 3.2.0 due lack of performances. Only SPI usage is supported in the new versions of official Semtech driver/HAL (https://github.com/Lora-net/lora_gateway).

Why Ansible?

Ansible (https://github.com/ansible) is one of the most widespread tool for a massive central management of the IT infrastructure. Ansible along with ansible-semaphore (https://github.com/ansible-semaphore/semaphore) is the ideal set of tools for a complex management of widespread LR2 infrastructure.
